Why writing down your dreams changes EVERYTHING.

03 January, 2016

Happy New Year friends :)

As you read these words, right in this very moment, you have the opportunity to change the course of your entire life. Sounds a bit exciting doesn't it? Well it is.

Dreaming comes naturally to us as kids. But as adults, it seems like dreaming requires much more effort. There are more limitations. More boundaries. More fear. Less freedom. Less boldness. Less joy. Why is this? And how can we get past it? It all comes down to our ability to dream. Mr Disney is one of my favourite dreamers. This is him holding the Disneyland blueprints with his team before construction began on July 16th, 1954.

Three and a half years ago I took a leap of faith, resigned from my job, and started on a brand new adventure. I wasn't sure WHAT I was going to do, but I knew I needed to dream. So I started imagining. But as I dreamed bigger I actually started freaking out. "Well it's all good and well dreaming big, but how the heck are these dreams actually going to happen?!"

It was in this moment God whispered to me, "Nat. At any moment, anything can happen". Since then he's taken me on a journey of adventure, teaching me how to dream like a child, and my thinking has completely changed.

I'm so passionate about helping people to dream and flourish that I'm writing a book and dreams mentoring program all about it. Both projects are coming along (big dreams usually take a while to birth!) but until they are ready, I have created this blog, my instagram and my prints to encourage you!

So with the beginning of a new year, we are filled with fresh excitement and expectation. We lovvvvve that feeling that comes with a new season, a new month, a new week and a new day... but a new YEAR?! There's nothing quite like it! A fresh year ahead of us. A blank slate, full of potential, possibility and life.

So what do we do with this extravagant golden treasure laying before us? New Year's Resolutions that are "the best idea EVER" on January 1st, often tend to dwindle down to nothing by the 10th of January. So how do we take the BIG dreams and ideas that are bubbling beneath the surface, and bring them to life? Well... here are a few things I do ;) xo

7 ways to see your dreams happen in 2016:

1. Write your dreams down.

When we write our dreams down and keep them in front of us, they become top of mind. When we see them all the time, we think about them ALL the time. They become priority, passion increases and this is when we SEE them happen. :) I have been doing this for three years now and it works. So get your pen and paper out.

2. Review your dreams daily.

This is key. Millions of people write their dreams and goals down in January and then NEVER look at them for the rest of the year! Spend a couple of minutes each day reading over your dreams and imagining them happening. You'll feel your mind expanding and thinking bigger in no time.

3. Set deadlines.

We wander aimlessly unless we have a destination. A deadline sets an end marker and gives us motivation to move. It's also a powerful seed we sow. God, who placed the dream in our hearts in the first place, sees our faith and loves creating opportunities for us.

4. Make each dream and goal measureable.

Set bite-sized tasks for yourself daily or weekly so you can monitor your progress. Remember, baby steps. Break up all the elements of your dream and put them in a list of indvidual "do-able" tasks.

5. Allocate time for your dream.

Pick three things on your list and schedule specific time in your diary to work on them. I like to call this 'Intentional Dream Fulfillment'. "As we are faithful with the little things, God will trust us with greater things". (Luke 16:10 paraphased)

6. Join forces.

If you're stuck in an area of your dream, collaborate. There is nothing more powerful than two creative beings, using their own unique and individual talents to create something beautiful. "Two are better than one, for they get a good return for their labour. If either of them fall, one can help the other up." (Ecclesiastes 4:9)

7. Get a mentor.

This is paramount. Having someone who is further along in their career to cheer you on, share their wisdom and challenge you is absolutely essential in order to see the gifitings and talents in you fully released. So whether it's me, or someone else, this is top priority for you this year.

Speaking of writing things down... this is the blueprint of the Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland.
